Planning your visit?Timed slots are limited, and cancellation is free up to 24 hours before. Reserve today, decide later.
Check ticket availabilityComplimentary guided tastings—the fallback everyone ignores
The distillery runs complimentary guided tastings in the gift shop every day it is open. Walk in. No reservation. No cost. A bourbon host pours four samples and talks you through them. Most visitors never mention this option because they are focused on the "free tour," but the gift shop tasting is the real safety net. You missed the Wednesday drop? Come visit the gift shop. This is why you can visit Buffalo Trace without a tour reservation and still taste bourbon.
What is in the gift shop
Buffalo Trace bourbon, Eagle Rare, W.L. Weller, Sazerac (the company’s rye), Pappy Van Winkle (limited, per-person purchase limit, allocated by the distillery, not always in stock). If you came for Pappy, you might not find it, and if you do, there is a limit on how many you can buy. The gift shop also carries bourbon glasses, branded merchandise, books on bourbon history, and snacks. Prices are standard retail, not inflated.
What is allocated
Allocated bottles are those in high demand and limited supply. Pappy Van Winkle is allocated. Some high-proof Buffalo Trace bottles are allocated. Allocated bottles sell out, and there is a per-person purchase limit. If you want a specific allocated bottle, call ahead: gift shop 502-696-5926. Ask what is in stock today before you make the drive.
What you need to buy or taste
Valid photo ID. No exceptions. A driver’s license, passport, or state ID. If you do not have ID, you can visit the gift shop but you cannot taste or buy.
Dogs in the gift shop
Dogs on a leash are welcome on the grounds, but not inside the gift shop and not on tours. Service animals are the exception. This is a standard alcohol-retail rule.
Hours
The gift shop follows the distillery hours: Monday–Saturday 9 a.m.–5 p.m. EST, Sunday 11 a.m.–5 p.m. EST.
