The Hard Hat Tour takes you inside Rackhouse F, an unheated warehouse where barrels age. The space is cold in winter and warm in summer, but what matters most is the dust. Barrels shed residue and wood particles that land on everything. If you wear clothes you do not mind ruining, you will not worry about it. If you wear new jeans or a favorite shirt, you might find a stain later. Plan accordingly. Dark colours hide stains better than light ones.

Weather dressing for Frankfort

Frankfort sits on the Kentucky River and sits between Louisville and Lexington. Spring and fall bring cool mornings and warm afternoons—layer. Summer brings heat and humidity. Winter brings cold and sometimes damp. The distillery grounds have limited shade, so sunscreen in summer is smart. If you are visiting a paid distillery like Maker’s Mark on the same day, note that the tour there is mostly outdoors with no seating, which matters more than at Buffalo Trace.
