Angel’s Envy Distillery: Signature Tour with Bourbon Tasting review

Angel's Envy review
My verdict: the smallest flagship distillery on this list, founded by Lincoln Henderson and now led by Owen Martin. One hour inside a fully operational Whiskey Row distillery, finishing with chocolate paired against three specialty pours. Every reviewer so far has come away impressed, though it is a young listing with few of them.

What the tour covers

Angel’s Envy is a small, fully operational distillery on Whiskey Row in downtown Louisville, founded in 2011 by Lincoln Henderson, a Bourbon Hall of Famer, and now led by master distiller Owen Martin. The tour covers mash bill, fermentation, distillation, maturation and the secondary barrel finishing that defines the brand: port wine barrels and Caribbean rum casks. Ends with the Signature tasting: Kentucky Straight Bourbon finished in port, Rye finished in rum casks, and Triple Oak — each paired with artisanal chocolate from Art Eatables. Finishing Room Bar and gift shop are open after; both extra charges.

What works

  • Smallest and newest flagship on the site, which makes it feel special
  • The port-barrel and rum-cask finishing processes are unusual and well-explained
  • Chocolate pairings are a real experience, not a token taste
  • Guide Tony is praised as “incredibly knowledgeable and very personable”
  • Wheel-chair accessible on Whiskey Row
  • One hour is efficient and focused
  • Seven reviews all at 5.0 stars shows consistency

Worth knowing

  • Small sample (7 reviews, all perfect scores — possible selection bias)
  • The finishing concept is distinctive but might be less historically focused than other distilleries
  • Finishing Room Bar and gift shop are tempting but extra charges
  • Whiskey Row is busy; peak times can feel crowded

Insider tip

The chocolate pairing is the real differentiator here. Book morning if you can; Whiskey Row is busy in the afternoon. The Finishing Room Bar has premium drinks but they’re priced accordingly — budget extra if you want a sit-down cocktail. Bring photo ID.

Who it’s for

Anyone curious about small-batch bourbon and finishing processes. Chocolate lovers. Visitors who want the premium tasting experience in one hour. Whiskey Row walkabout visitors who want to dip into a working distillery. Not for anyone on a tight budget (it’s the priciest per-person one-hour option). See other Louisville options.

21+Kentucky’s legal drinking age is 21, and every distillery here checks a valid government photo ID before pouring. Under-21s are welcome on most tours but are not served; some warehouse and hard-hat tours set a higher minimum age of their own. If a tour includes tastings, plan a driver or book one that includes transport — and please drink responsibly.

Frequently asked questions

Is the chocolate really paired with the bourbon?

Yes. Art Eatables chocolate is paired with each of the three tastings in the Signature series. It’s not a token; it’s part of the tasting experience.

How is this different from other bourbon tours?

Most distilleries tour production history. Angel’s focuses on a specific innovation: secondary barrel finishing. It’s a small, modern distillery with a unique approach.

Is the Finishing Room Bar included?

No. The tour and Signature tasting are included. The Finishing Room Bar is open afterward but drinks are an extra charge.
